But the 30th Circuit Court also has a Lansing location at 313 West Kalamazoo Street. Requesting Copies of Court Documents

You can get copies of Ingham County civil court records in person at either courthouse location or by mail. Walk-in requests are handled at the clerk's window. Have the case number ready, and staff can pull the documents. Ingham County charges $1.50 per page for standard copies. Certified copies cost $10.00 for the certification on top of the page fee.

Mail requests go to Ingham County Clerk, 341 S. Jefferson, Mason, MI 48854. Include the case number, names of parties, the specific documents you need, and a check or money order payable to the Ingham County Clerk. You can also email CircuitCourtRecords@ingham.org to ask about a case before sending a formal request. Under MCL 600.2546, the fees for certified copies are set by state law.

Ingham County fully participates in MiFILE for electronic filing. Attorneys must file through MiFILE in most case types. Self-represented parties may use it too. Ingham County Civil Case Types

The 30th Circuit Court handles the bigger civil disputes. Any case where the amount at stake is over $25,000 goes to Circuit Court. This covers contract claims, property disputes, personal injury lawsuits, and appeals from District Court or administrative agencies. The Circuit Court's Family Division handles domestic matters separately.

The 55th District Court covers civil cases up to $25,000 per MCL 600.8301. Small claims go up to $6,500. District Court cases generally resolve faster than Circuit Court matters. Both courts keep their civil records open to the public under MCL 600.1420, with exceptions for sealed cases and protected information under MCR 1.109.

Court Records Privacy and Access

Civil court records in Ingham County are public under Michigan law. MCL 600.1420 says courts must be open. There are limits. MCR 1.109 requires courts to protect personal information like Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and financial account numbers. These details are redacted from public records. Sealed cases, juvenile proceedings, and adoption files are not available. Michigan courts are also exempt from the Freedom of Information Act under MCL 15.232(h)(iv), so you cannot use FOIA to get court documents. Go through the clerk's office directly for all record requests.
